Today members of New Horizon Church partnered with members from Summit Church and Church of the Good Shepherd, to make Pei-Shaun Murillo's dream of home ownership come true. The day b at 8am with most of the first-floor outer framing completed by 11am, when we gathered to bless the house. I was honored to be asked to bless the family. Pei-Shaun has three beautiful children, Quebin, 11; Luz-Clarita, 5 and Selena, 4.
For the upcoming 14 Saturdays, dedicated members will gather for four-hour shifts at 8am & noon and work to bring homeownership to Pei-Shaun, who is employed by the City of Durham. Amazingly, another Habitat House, directly across the street, was also blessed today. To-date, 40 Habitat homes have been constructed in this downtown neighborhood, bringing revitalization & diversity to downtown Durham. It is important to note that crime has dropped in this neighborhood by 50%.
Of course I have to give props to several small groups who had members working on the house today. Forgive me if I miss a group, but props to those groups I'm aware of: Poythress group, Drauss group, Medlin group, Britt group, Snider group, Dula/Hester group. I had the opportunity to talk with a new couple who has only been attending New Horizon Church since they moved here from Pennsylvania in December. Great to meet you Shane & Jay!
I've included a few pics from today, but will post new pics as I either take them or receive them. Interested in participating in this great ministry? Contact our NHC Habitat Coordinator, Tracy Honeycutt at tracy.honeycutt@newhorizonchurch.tv. You'll be amazed at how you feel!
