M25 Impact!

This email came through our general email box this morning.  It came from Lucy, a recipient of M25 food & personal care items.  Her email speaks volumes and impacted me greatly and I want to make sure I share her gratefulness with as many of you who served, as possible.

"I wanted to thank all of you, for all the kindness, generosity, and hugs and on and on I could go.  I was in the line on Saturday, when you were handing out boxes of hope.  Sometimes I tend to take for granted how wonderfully blessed we are, and how God uses people like those at New Horizon to share their love with others.  It has been a tougher time then usual this past year, but through it all, it has brought us closer to him, who daily shares wonderful little miracles to let us know we are not alone, and these miracles always give me goosebumps, as I see how he will provide simple, seemingly unimportant things, down to the last detail to let me know he is still right there with me.  
 
Saturday, when I got home, my daughter and I went through the boxes, and we were ooing and aaing, about wow, we needed the peanut butter, and we were all out of spaghetti sauce, and as if that were not enough.  I left the small box on my bed for a while, and when I opened it, I was just in awe, as I had been looking at these slipon shoes, as I cannot bend because of back issues.  The kind that are like plastic and won't get wet and muddy.  However, money was not there to buy shoes.  When I opened that small box there was a pair, my size, brown (the same color as mud, so I won't look a mess, I can wipe them off) sitting on the top of the box.  How awesome is that, how awesome is our God! Who has used you all in a mighty way.
 
I cannot say thank you appropriately for the time you shared generously, for the love  you gave, the patience, the smiles and waves.  Saturday will be a special memory for a very long time.  WWJD.... exactly what you all did.  I even received flowers! with the scripture verse tied to it, be anxious for nothing....... It is on the refrigerator forever!
 
Truly if I could put into words what you all did yesterday, it would be: making me feel like a Queen for a day, and was blessed to share in a sea of people whose love for God radiated in every face.  I was praising his name all the way home.  Thank you sooo very much!"
 

Habitat House - 1st Day Video Montage

Call Me Pushy, But...

Had a great blessing today that came from holding someone accountable.  Sunday, immediately following the second service I began calling several people who had not brought their Angel gifts.  Many answered the phone, thanked me for reminding them, and made arrangements to bring their gifts as soon as possible.

This afternoon, the last presents arrived.  The person delivering the gifts thanked me for calling on Sunday and then admitted that they probably would not have fulfilled their commitment had I not called.  The person went on to explain that money was tight, but after my call, they looked at a purchase they had made for themselves and decided to return that purchase in order to buy the gifts for their Angel recipient.

After sharing the story, the person told me how much joy they felt after making that decision, then following through with the commitment.  I shared what a blessing this interaction was for me. Thinking the blessing couldn't get better, this person, who hasn't quite been able to commit to joining a small group, asked me to help find the perfect group!  Call me pushy, but...

Unstoppable Outreach!

Following on the heals of our Cameron Park outreach last week, and providing coats & shoes for the entire student body of C. C. Spaulding School yesterday; is another amazing opportunity to impact our community this Friday night.

Over 5000 fliers were distributed to every elementary school student in the Orange County School system inviting parents to drop off their kids this Friday night, December 11th, and have a great date knowing their kids were having a great & safe time too.  Many of these families are unchurched or do not currently have a church home.  What a great opportunity to introduce these families to New Horizon Church and our awesome family environment!  I know I can't wait to have fun playing with a group of kids, eat way too much fun food and watch "Night at the Museum 2".  Want to have fun serving these families, while introducing them to New Horizon Church?!  Click here to sign up and Kid's Pastor Cathy will be in touch with the details.  Join us in making a difference!

More Unstoppable Impact!

Good morning world!  I just received a story from one of our long-time New Horizon Church members.  Her story demonstrates how God uses us to impact people, far beyond how we can imagine.  It started with our pastor's vision and his obedience to God and continued with our obedience to God.  DD's story says it all and I know we'll hear even more impact stories in the coming days.

"Leah, I work with the parent of one of the CC Spaulding kids. She came into work showing the voucher to our co-workers (not knowing that I was a member of NHC). She was overwhelmed! She said that her little girl was so excited and could not wait to pick out her coat. She told us how she has seen children standing in the cold waiting for the bus, many with no coat. I have always been proud of my church and my church family but this day, I was not only proud but also thankful to be the member of an UNSTOPPABLE church. Thank you Jesus!"

Unstoppable Gratitude!

Today was delivery day and we thought that our delivery of coats filling three cars and an extended bed truck would overwhelm the staff of C. C. Spaulding School. It's not too often when an entire student body of extremely needy children gets to pick out a brand new coat and pair of shoes and have them delivered on the coldest morning of the season, thus far. 

Guess what?  We were the ones being overwhelmed...with overflowing gratitude.  We weren't two steps in the school lobby when I heard through multiple school radios, "They're here, they're here!" Immediately, all auxiliary staff, along with the principal, Ms. Kelley were eagerly pulling bags from our cars and truck, thanking us each time they grabbed a new handful of bags.

To top it off, at the end of our delivery, when we asked Ms. Kelley if we could capture a few words on video, she exclaimed, "It's my birthday today! What a great gift!"  Wow!  The truth is that the gift is ours.  How amazing it is to be part of God's plan in providing the bare necessities to "the least of these." Matt 25:40. New Horizon Church, you're awesome!  J. C. Penney's, you're awesome! Linda & Randall Poythress, you're awesome!  C. C. Spaulding staff, you're awesome! C. C. Spaulding kids, you're awesome!  And we can't forget Pastor Dave, who listened to God and shared his vision...you're awesome! Ultimately, God, you're awesome! Amen.

Continue to pray for Ms. Kelley, her staff, the children and their families as we enter this Christmas season.

Unstoppable Impact!

What does an Unstoppable church look like? What kind of impact does an unstoppable church have on its community?  Here's a snapshot:

An Unstoppable church listens to the heart and vision of its pastor and participates in his vision.  Three months ago Pastor Dave shared that God was leading him to ask the church to provide every child attending C. C. Spaulding School with a new winter coat and new pair of shoes.

An Unstoppable church is filled with leaders unwilling to take "no" for an answer and makes the seemingly impossible happen. Our C. C. Spaulding Impact leaders weren't willing to settle until they formed the best partnership possible with a vendor who was willing to bend over backwards to help take care of all of the kids attending C. C. Spaulding School. The adventure for the children began two weeks ago when each child was awarded a voucher for a new coat and pair of shoes purchased through J. C. Penney's. The new store manager, Dianna Ravenell, along with Linda Poythress, designed a wonderful system that enabled each child to choose their own coat and shoes. The store lovingly labeled each bag and stored the purchases on ten big racks until we paid for them today. Dianna even came in on her day off to finalize the purchase and assist us with the pick up.

An Unstoppable church impacts everyone it encounters, inviting all to join in. While finalizing the purchase today, several customers asked about what was going on.  After one of the sales associates shared what we were doing, one of the customers handed me some money, telling me, "Please put this toward this project. God bless you."  And, many of the sales associates thanked us for "letting" them be part of this.

An Unstoppable church obediently and faithfully brings a "first-fruits" offering, expecting God to do amazing things through its resources.  Today, less than 3 hours after the tithes and offerings were accounted for, New Horizon Church tithed the first-fruits offering, finalizing the purchase of coats and shoes for the entire student body of C. C. Spaulding School.

This is only the first installment of this Unstoppable Impact posting.  We'll be delivering the coats and shoes to C. C.
